Meeting Notes -- February 9, 2007

The upcoming concert on February 23 was discussed.  Oscar will check with Ernie Bradley as to which sound system will be used.  The bands are all scheduled for the June event. We still need many more ads for the ad book.  The March meeting will have to be cancelled due to vacation schedules.

UPCOMING TRI-STATE EVENTS

May Meeting Location ChangeWe had an excellent turnout for the concert in February at the Burkittsville Ruritan Club and the decision was made to try holding a regular monthly meeting there in hopes of getting more members  to come out for the meeting.  We have to pay to do this, so if you are interested in seeing the meetings moved you need to attend and support this decision.  Based on the turnout for this meeting we may consider holding meetings at various locations throughout the year.  Directions are at the top of the Newsletter.

2007 Pig Roast and Picking PartyJune 15 and 16, 2007 – Log Cabin Campground – Mark your calendars now.  We have booked the fabulous Bluegrass Brothers for this year’s event for both Friday and Saturday.  Also returning will be Jay Armsworthy and Eastern Tradition, Ernie Bradley and Grassy Ridge, Nickel Misery Band, Sweetwater String Band, Goldheart Bluegrass Band (this is a new group in the area – three sisters ages 11, 14 and 17 – with a great sound!), Stoney Creek Band and of course the Tri-State All Star Band.  A Blue Ridge Carter Stanley model guitar will again be raffled off.  Tickets are ready and are $5.00 each.  We will sell only 400 tickets.  If you are interested in obtaining tickets for purchase or to sell, please call Shari Reed – 304-258-4419.  We need your help here!

We are going to prepare an ad booklet this year.  A full-page ad will be $40, half-page $20, and quarter-page $10.  Please contact your local businesses and solicit ads for the booklet.  I’m sure you all deal with someone in your area.  We need your help with this!   A letter has been prepared that can be given to business owners, so please contact Shari if you can get some ads.  We need everyone’s help to make this year a big success.  Please try to get ONE ad for us – many of you have businesses or I’m sure you know someone who does.  If they want to include a promotion (such as a discount upon presentation of the ad) be sure to get that information.  A business card will do or a copy of a previous ad. If you cannot obtain an ad, please consider becoming a Patron for $5.00.  We will list names of those who contribute.  Please have all ads and money turned in by May 7, 2007.

Instead of Tri-State selling food this year, we have contacted some food vendors to come in for the 2 days.  We will also have the pig roast on Saturday and anyone who attends is asked to bring a dish to share.

Tri-State’s Website

Note that our website address has changed from tri-statebluegrass.net to tri-statebluegrass.org.

Wade Manuel has taken over as webmaster for our website.  Recently we had a problem with the company with whom we have our website domain name registered.  They decided that they wanted more money and shut down our website until it was paid!  Thanks to Wade and Peter Lester for resolving this problem.  The end result is that our name has changed slightly and we will now be paying less than we had in the past.  Wade has been updating the information on the site so if you have access to the internet, take a look at the site.
