                                      Meeting Notes -- April 13, 2007

The Pig Roast & Pickin’ Party was discussed.  All bands have been hired and most arrangements have been finalized.  The food vendors have not all been contacted.

Obie O’Brien has indicated that he wishes to resign as President for personal reasons.

                         Meeting Notes -- May 11, 2007

As had been announced in the last newsletter, the board had decided to hold a meeting at the Burkittsville Ruritan Club.  Many members had been voicing concern that the meetings were too far away.  Oscar Summers and Shari Reed attended and two other members had come along with her.  Nobody else showed up!  It was decided that the meetings would continue to be held at Log Cabin Campground with no further changes.

  Meeting Notes -- June 8, 2007

Final plans for the festival next week were discussed.

      Meeting Notes -- July 13, 2007

The meeting was held via telephone conference call.  Guy Eaves and Oscar Summers were at Log Cabin Campground and Shari Reed was at home.  The date for the auction was set for August 18.

Festival Report

The bills have all been paid and we netted a grand total of $908.62 on the festival! We took in $11,679.86 from gate sales, guitar and quilt raffles, 50/50 sales, ad book sales, vendor rents, donations for the day and earlier bacon raffles and 50/50 sales.  Our expenses totaled $10,771.24 for bands; tents, tables, chairs and porta-john rentals; advertising (flyers, posters, ads, and ad book publishing) along with miscellaneous other costs (paper products for the pig roast, the pig himself, wrist bands, etc)

I want to extend special thanks to the following people –

·         Bill Beckner for doing a superb job of running the sound system (we got a lot of great comments!)

·         Harvey Cornwell and his helpers Muff Zeger & Dailey Broy for cooking those delicious French-Fries!

·         Rose Myers, Shirley Zeger, Janet Sisk, Hazel Mallow & Louise Moore for selling raffle tickets, tip jars and 50/50 tickets.  What a great job they did!

·         Larry Sisk & Betty Cornwell for their help at the gate with ticket sales

·         Jim Reed for cooking the pig, loan of the sound system, help with mowing, trimming and general clean-up of the grounds. (We had some paid help also, but  the campground looked great!)

·         Oscar Summers  for our emcee of the shows

·         To everyone who brought a covered dish to the pig roast – everything I tasted was great!

·         To Donald Bane, winner of the quilt and the last 50/50, who donated his winnings from the 50/50 back to Tri-State

·         And to anyone else I may have failed to mention

·         And especially to all the bands for the terrific music.  We had some great talent on and off stage!

UPCOMING TRI-STATE EVENTS

Annual Auction August 18, 2007

We will once again be holding our annual auction on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Log Cabin Campground.

As always we will have a potluck luncheon to be held at 12:30 with the auction to follow.  Please bring a covered dish for the potluck and clean out your cellars, attics, closets, drawers and garages for the auction.  We can use anything you no longer can use.   Plan to come and join us and pick up some good bargains. There is always something for everyone at some pretty good prices.

Christmas Party December 8, 2007

Our annual Christmas Party will be on Saturday, December 8, 2007 , at Log Cabin Campground.  This is a covered dish dinner and a chance to get in some picking with other members.  We ask that you bring a gift labeled for a man or woman and we will take the gifts to a local nursing home.  We will plan to eat at 12:30 PM and you are welcome to stay and enjoy the music.

Keeping up with our Members

Sympathy is extended to Obie O’Brien and his family on the death of his wife Margaret.  Margaret served Tri-State Bluegrass Association as Secretary –Treasurer for many years.  Many of you will recall seeing her and Obie working in the kitchen and selling food for our festivals for many years.

Congratulations to Daryl Snyder of Claysburg , PA.   Daryl was the winner of this year’s guitar raffle.  He has informed me that he will be giving the guitar to his granddaughter who has wanted to learn to play.

If anyone has an address for Floyd Propst, please give me a call – 304-258-4419.  I have tried sending his newsletters and they are returned with “Insufficient Address”  Even if you have a phone number or know in what town he lives it would help.  I need some help here!!!

Message from the Secretary:

I apologize for the month delay in sending this newsletter.  There just has not been enough information to send one out, but I needed to let you all know about the auction.  We did not have as many members attend the Pig Roast & Pickin’ Party as we would have liked to see, but there were about 170 people who attended all together.  Try to get out for our auction on August 18

Our next newsletter is scheduled as follows:
